Sako or Civil Guard Gun-Machining works LTD is a Finnish firearm producer located in Riihimäki. It was founded in 1919 as a workshop for repairing military rifles left from WW I. In 1921, it became an independent commercial enterprise. They started exporting pistol cartridges to Sweden in the 1930s. After WW II, Sako started manufacturing rifles. Their first invention was the Model L-42 rifle (patented in 1942), followed by L-46 in 1949. For a short period of time, Sako Firearms also produced lever-action rifles (Finnwolf) and rimfire rifles (Finnscout). Over decades, Sako produced more than 40 different models of firearms with various rifle chamberings. The company was owned by a series of owners. Currently, owner of the company is an Italian firearms holding company Beretta Holding. In 2013, Sako reached a new production record of over 100.000 rifles produced.
Sako 85 is a bolt-action rifle with a controlled-feed action. Similarly to other Sako rifles, model 85 has a conical dove-tail on the top of the action which tapers towards the rear part of the receiver – for mounting purposes (front dove-tail base is wider than the rear dove-tail base). There are no mounting holes. Barrels are drilled, honed and cold-hammer forged. Sako 85 features a recoil stop at the rear mounting surface.
Sako 85 rifles come in six action sizes: XS, S, SM, M, L, and XL. This mount is suitable for Sako 85 with action size M (medium), which is chambered for .25-06 Rem., .270 Win., .30-06 Sprg., 6.5x55 SE, 7x64, 8x57 IS, 9.3x62 and 9.3x66 Sako. The total length of the rifle is 1086 mm. Weight is 3.3 kg.
Sako 85 is available in six action lengths. When a rifle is available in more than one action length, only two-piece mounts are interchangeable between these rifles (a two-piece mount made for Sako 85 S/SM can also be mounted on Sako 85 XS, M, L, and XL). One-piece mounts will only fit a rifle with a specific action length (a one-piece mount made for Sako 85 S/SM will not fit Sako 85 XS, M, L, and XL).
Rifles Sako Forest-Finnbear, Vixen and models 75/85 have similar actions. This is why, for example, two-piece mounts made for Sako Forest-Finnbear will fit rifles Sako Vixen and models 75/85 while one-piece mounts made for Sako Forest-Finnbear will not fit rifles Sako Vixen and models 75/85. These rifles do not have mounting surfaces with radiuses since they have a dove-tail on the receiver. Sako dove-tails are conical – they taper towards the rear part of the receiver.

MAKuick mounts are robust and reliable. They offer a 100 % repeatability, meaning that the user can remove them and put them back onto the rifle without the need to re-zero. MAKuick mounts are designed so that they can withstand the recoil of even the most powerful calibers out there. They are lightweight because both the base and the rings are made from aluminum. The whole system that is in contact with the rifle (the clamping assembly) is made from steel. MAKuick is a versatile series of mounts – it allows mounting of all sorts of rings, all sorts of mounting rails (LM, ZM/VM, SR, Convex), different adapters that allow mounting of other devices such as ATN X-Sight; Pulsar Digisight, Apex, Trail; Fortuna devices etc. MAKuick mounts made for the mounting of riflescopes with a rail underneath are made of one part. Because of this, they are more robust, durable and reliable. For digital and thermal optical devices, the buyer has to pick a MAKuick base with four holes on which rings are usually put. Instead of the rings, the user mounts an adapter on top that works as a connector between the thermal optics and the MAKuick base. MAK makes one-piece MAKuick bases for the following rifles: CZ 527, CZ 550, Merkel KR 1, Merkel RX Helix – also fits on all Picatinny rails, Sauer 303, Sako 75, Sako 85 S, Sako 85 M, Tikka T3 and Blaser rifles. They also make a MAKuick base for break barrel rifles with a 12 mm dovetail and for break barrel rifles with a 14.5 mm dovetail (usually found on Czech break barrel rifles).
In the MAKuick series, MAK offers plenty of options. As regards the diameter, the following rings are produced: 25.4, 30, 34, 36 and 40 mm. The base measures 12 mm in height. The rings are available in 2.5, 5 and 10 mm BH height.
First, the user has to make sure that the rifle is fixed (it is advised that the rifle is put into a rifle holder). Once the mount is slid into the dove-tail grooves and fixed by rotating the levers for 180°, the lock screws have to be unscrewed. The user then adjusts the clamping force of the adjustment screws with a hex key so that they are tightened but not too tightened. The lock screws have to be re-tightened to complete the mounting procedure. Once the riflescope is put into the ring mount, no lapping is required. The rings do not have to be glued. Nevertheless, some gunsmiths prefer to glue them to ensure that the riflescope does not move during shots. The recommended tightening torque is 2.2 Nm.
The product has a warranty period of 10 years.
