The GPO (German Precision Optics) company headquarters are in Germany. They have factories in China and Japan. In China they produce cheaper products, whereas they produce more expensive ones in Japan. The products then go through quality control located in Germany.
They are known to offer a lot for the set price of their products. They are proud of the high quality of their workmanship.
Most of the binoculars they offer are available in 8x and 10x maginification.
There are three models, ED, HD, and models without any additional mark next to the name: Passion ED models are the cheapest but offer a lot for their price. Passion HD models feature higher quality glass and are thus the most expensive. On the outer layer of the lenses of the HD is a hydrophobic coating. The Passion models are somewhere in between the two as regards quality. Neither Passion nor Passion ED models feature a hydrophobic coating like the HD models.
The housing is made of magnesium, which is remarkable for binoculars of this type (low-light) in this price range, with an elegant black finish. The binoculars feature a very narrow, elegant bridge which allows easy handling with one hand (the bridge is also made of magnesium). The Multi-position eyecups can be set to 3 positions and move very smoothly. The binoculars are suitable to use with glasses. They have a big focusing knob with a fairly slow-focus mechanism, which makes them suitable for hunting in the dusk. The diopter is positioned on the right eyepiece.
They offer a clear image with vivid colors. The Abbe-Koenig prisms (a type of a roof prism that is more difficult to make than the classic Schmidt-Pechan) contribute to a good performance in the dusk (these prisms have a higher light transmission rate than the classic roof prisms). The 7mm exit pupil further contributes to a bright image.
They are waterproof, fogproof and filled with dry nitrogen which prevents dewing inside the binocular.
They come in a quality olive green case which is excellent for transporting binoculars as it is very hard on the outside. In the case you get a cleaning cloth, neoprene neck strap, hard case strap, objective covers and ocular covers.
8x magnification offers a wider field of view than the 10x magnification model but provides fewer details on the image. The shaking of hands is less noticeable at 8x magnification. The model is made for hunting in the dusk as it contains Abbe Koenig prisms, quality coatings on the lenses and at the same time it offers a large exit pupil.
