Athlon draws inspiration for the naming of their riflescopes from Greek mythology. They have many riflescopes in their offer, and each series encompasses riflescopes from a specific price class. In the Neos series, Athlon’s entry-level riflescopes are positioned, while the Cronus UHD midas series comprises their top of the line riflescopes.
Some of Athlon riflescopes carry the ‘BTR’ mark. BTR stands for Bright Tactical Reticle, which basically means that the riflescope features an illuminated tactical reticle.
A few Athlon riflescopes carry the ‘ETR’ mark instead. It stands for Enhanced Tactical Reticle. ETR is not a replacement for BTR – the purpose of using different acronyms is to differentiate between different scope designs.
Athlon Ares ETR series is a step up from the Ares BTR series. Ares BTR series riflescopes have a 30mm tube, 100 MOA/29 MIL of elevation and HD glass. The ETR series use a 34mm tube, 110 MOA/32 MIL of elevation and ED glass. As a result, these riflescopes have better resolution, higher contrast, and no chromatic aberration.
Athlon Ares - ETR first focal plane riflescopes are loaded with features, which takes shooting to another level. They feature a tactical, illuminated reticle. The reticle is etched on the glass, which adds to the durability and makes the construction more shock resistant. The turrets are of the exposed type. ETR series has a locking windage turret, and a True Zero Stop system is implemented to the elevation turret.
The housing is made of one-piece 6061 T6 aluminium and ruggedly designed. Ares ETR riflescopes withstand the recoil of even the most powerful calibers out there – they are tested to withstand 1000G recoil for 1000 times. The interior is argon purged to prevent internal fogging at low temperatures.
Ares ETR series uses a high precision erector system, processed by a CNC machine with a minimal tolerance level. Because of this, the magnification change runs smoothly, and the power settings are extremely accurate.
The lenses are fully multicoated. The XPL coating applied to the external parts of the lenses repels dirt, oil and protects the surface from minor scratches.
Athlon Ares riflescopes are made in China and carry a price tag of around 1700 €. Only the range Cronus BTR riflescopes are superior to the Ares ETR series of riflescopes in Athlon’s offer.
This first focal plane scope has a large magnification span with a maximum power of 30x. Also, it has 32 MIL/110 MOA of elevation range. Both mentioned features make it a great choice for long range shooting. Furthermore, the riflescope is equipped with a parallax adjustment with a direct dial side focus (25 yards to infinity) and a multi-turn tactical turret with a turn indicator underneath. The windage turret is equipped with a locking function (the elevation turret lacks this feature).
Athlon Ares ETR 4.5–30x56 FFP is available in two colours, brown and black. There are two reticles to choose from, APRS IR MIL and APLR2 IR MOA. If you choose the MIL reticle, the reticle subtensions of the reticle will match the clicks of the turrets at all magnifications (MIL/MIL). If you choose the MOA reticle, the same applies (MOA/MOA).
The reticle in Ares ETR is illuminated, and the illumination can be set to 6 intensity levels. There is an off switch between each intensity setting. The system is powered by a CR2032 battery.
Ares ETR comes with 10 years of warranty. You can read more about the warranty policy here.
