These 8x42 binoculars with their first rate components and extremely high quality optics are ideal for the more serious birder or wildlife observer who demands a high level of performance in all areas. Available in either black or green, the rubber armour exterior protects the optics as well as adding grip and making them more comfortable to hold.
These 8x binoculars provide a good level of magnification that is ideal for close to mid level distances, whilst also making it relatively straightforward to keep the image steady in your hands so that you can enjoy a shake-free image and thus more easily study every minute detail.
Along with an excellent optical design, the moderate power also helps produce the extremely wide and class-leading field of view (142 m @ 1000 m) that you are presented with when looking through this 8x42 Sapphire ED. This offers many advantages, but is particularly important to users like birders operating at reasonably close ranges as it makes it much easier to quickly locate and then follow small, erratic, fast moving birds.
The 42mm objective lenses are large enough to enable them to capture enough light for the binocular to perform well in most lighting conditions, be that from an early morning until sunset. But at the same time they are not so large as to make the instrument too bulky and thus difficult to carry about in the field.
With a close focus distance of 2 meters, these would not make the ideal option as a dedicated butterfly binocular, but it is more than acceptable for the occasional observation of these and other insects from close range.
The 18mm of eye relief is excellent. This in conjunction with the adjustable click-stop eye cups makes this model a great option for anyone who wears glasses whilst binning.

Underside of the barrels lie thumb depressors that help you with correct position of your hands, giving you a great balance. The rubber armouring also protect the whole body of these binoculars against impacts. Sapphire ED models are tightly sealed to make them resilient in even the most extreme weather conditions. Together with nitrogen gas filling to prevent internal fogginess, this significantly prevents corrosion and molding in a long run.

There is also hydrophobic objective lens coating added, which is scratch-resistant since it repels moisture. When it comes to focusing, the Sapphire ED binoculars use grippy central focusing mechanism for quick adjustments and right-eye diopter to compensate for differences in the eyesight. Hawke offers 10 years of warranty for Sapphire ED series. The warranty claim is non-transferable and the proof of purchase must be presented. You can register your Hawke binoculars here and avoid the further complications in case the proof of purchase might get lost in the future. The company repairs or replaces damaged products without charge. However, it doesn’t include No Fault Policy – doesn’t cover damages due to mishandling, misuse, neglect or accidental damage. Wear items such as lens covers are not covered.
