Replacing the excellent Razor HD at the very top of Vortex’s impressive binocular lineup is the new Vortex Razor UHD series. Made in Japan, they are specifically designed by Vortex Optics to “take the best-of-the-best to the next level”. There's no doubt that these are ultra-high-end optics with highlights that include the use of phase-corrected Abbe-Koenig roof prisms, an APO lens system, multiple anti-reflection coatings on all lens surfaces as well as super tough, scratch and oil resistant coatings on exterior lens surfaces.
In terms of their physical weight and dimensions, these Razor UHD binoculars are somewhat heavier and larger than your typical 10x42mm roof prism binoculars, which is largely due to their improved optics and namely the APO lenses and the Abbe-Koenig prisms. Thus if you are specifically needing a more lightweight and compact instrument, it is worth taking a look at the HD version of this Razor instead.
Whilst it is not quite as wide as the 10x42 Vortex Razor HD which is simply outstanding when compared to most other 10x binoculars on the market, this Razor UHD still has an impressively wide field of view. For birders, hunters and many wildlife and general-purpose use this is important as it makes scanning wide open areas more efficient and at close range makes it much easier to quickly locate and follow your target.
For a 10x binocular these also have an impressive 16.7mm of eye relief. This in unison with the excellent quality, multi-position twist-up eyecups make them a good choice if you wear eyeglasses as it ensures you can adjust the distance to your eyes to the correct level to achieve the full field of view.
Naturally most users will be focused on longer distance observation, however, these binoculars have an outstanding minimum focus distance of only 1.37m. This widens the usefulness of this instrument making it possible to also use them to study things like butterflies or anything else at very close ranges.
Like all other models in this series, this 10x42 Razor UHD is tripod adaptable and this will easily accept a normal tripod adapter, which for those operating from a static location like a hide can be an important feature.
