The small lightweight body on this Neos, is perfect for those who want a binocular that is easy to pack away and/or carry about with them wherever they go.
Whilst a good all-round mid-sized binocular, their relatively small size, married with the wide field of view (the widest of all Neos binoculars) makes this 8x model particularly suitable to campers or birders going traveling or anyone looking for an inexpensive binocular to take to an outdoor sporting event or concert.
With a modest amount of eye relief, if you need to use your binocular whilst wearing glasses, you may be better suited with the 8x42 Neos, or take a look at the 8x42 Athlon Argos which both have over 17mm.
An entry-level series, the Neos is the least expensive offering within the Athlon Optics stable. It encompasses a wide variety of models and thus is sure to accommodate users shopping on a tight budget.
There are four roof prism models, with either the standard sized 8x42 or 10x42 models or the more compact and travel-friendly 8x32 and 10x32 options to choose from.
Available in either 10x or 12x magnifications, the two larger 50mm Neos binoculars use porro prisms and thus have the more iconic binocular shape with the objective lenses sitting further apart than the eye-pieces. Whilst this design is not as compact as the roof prism one, it is very comfortable to hold and produces a better stereoscopic image.
All Neos binoculars have a composite shell with a durable rubber armour coating on the exterior which as well as protection, also adds grip and is a more camouflaged, less reflective surface.
The housing is o-ring sealed and is internally filled with Nitrogen gas to ensure that the device is both 100% water and fog proof. These seals also prevent dust and other particles from entry and the dry, oxygen-free interior prevents any fungal or mold growth that you sometimes find on unprotected binoculars.
Focusing is achieved via a large centrally positioned wheel and all models come with a diopter adjuster and multi-positional twist-up eyecups to ensure that they can be customised to meet your particular requirements.
These binoculars are also easily fixed to a tripod using a common adapter which attaches to the screw thread on the front hinge. This ensures a completely steady image and is especially welcomed on the heavier, more powerful models or for those with very shaky hands.
All models within the Neos series use prisms made from BaK-4 glass and whilst the two 50mm porro prism options are fully multi-coated, the four roof prism versions are only multi-coated.
Added to this, if you also consider that porro prisms do not require special coatings to achieve total light transmission and that the roof prism models use silver and not the dielectric coatings as on Athlon’s more expensive ranges then there is no doubt that the 10x50 and 12x50 Neos will not only capture more light but transmit a higher percentage of it to your eyes than the roof prism versions.
Athlon Optics supply these Neos binoculars with a soft carry case, neck strap, both objective and ocular lens covers and a cleaning cloth.
As with all their binoculars, these Neos binoculars are covered by the Athlon Optics lifetime warranty. So should your binoculars get damaged through normal use, they will either repair or replace your instrument. Full details are contained within the box.
