Manufactured in Germany and designed for the hunter, wildlife observer or nature enthusiast operating in wide open terrain over longer distances, the 10x42 Steiner Ranger Xtreme binoculars offer a very high level of performance and reliability at a reasonable cost.
Made from Steiner’s extremely tough and durable NBR Long Life rubber, the outer armouring increases comfort and grip as well as adding a further layer of protection to the optics. The sound dampening and anti-reflective characteristics of this rubber also improve your chances of remaining unnoticed whilst getting in close to your subject.
Under this tough rubber armour exterior is an even tougher, yet lightweight Makrolon polycarbonate housing. Famously, it is able to withstand huge g-forces and because it is tightly sealed as well as filled with moistureless nitrogen gas, it ensures the inner optics remain dry and fog-free in even extreme weather conditions.
The ergonomic shape and clever design features on these Steiner binoculars show good attention to the small details that can make the difference when it counts. For example, the Ranger Xtreme has small shields on the sides of the twist-up eyecups. Made from a soft, yet durable and skin friendly silicone, they not only fit more comfortably to your face but they also block out any light or distractions coming from the periphery of your view. This allows you to better focus on your subject and helps maintain a better view no matter what direction the light is coming from.
The powerful 10x magnification and fully multi-coated, high contrast optics produce bright, clear images with a high level of detail, even at long distances.
Due to the size of the exit pupils created by the 10x42 configuration (4.2mm), the low light capabilities on these binoculars is good, but not excellent and so for optimal performance, these are best used during the day.
Note: If you require a very good low light capability, the larger exit pupils on the 8x42 model will make this a better option, whilst the even larger 8x56 Ranger Xtreme is specifically designed for extremely low light situations.
At 108 meters wide over a distance of 1000 meters, the field of view on these is reasonable for a 10x binocular and is another indication that this model works best at longer distances and wide open spaces.
