APO-Televids are a series of spotting scopes. A compact size and low weight make them very portable and practical. Leica introduced APO-Televid spotting scopes in 2009. They have been improved over the years with a major update in 2016.
APO-Televid spotting scopes by Leica either have a lens diameter of 65 mm or 82 mm. Both, 65 and 82, can be found in a straight or angled version. The straight models are – as the name suggests – without a curve or bend while the angled ones have the eyepiece at an angle of 45 degrees to the body of the spotting scope. Angled spotting scopes are generally used on tripods while the straight ones are in situations that involve movement, like hunting in the mountains. Users usually place the straight models on a fixed surface when observing, for example on a backpack placed on a rock. Finding the target is easier and more intuitive with a straight version than it is with an angled one. The straight models can also be mounted on a tripod, but it is not that common. The optical performance is not affected by the shape and is the same on both Televid models.
They are perfect for everyday use and extremely suitable for professionals as well. Leica made a solution for users who want to take images of their observations by integrating a premium digiscoping system into the device. Leica digiscoping system is a combination of Leica spotting scopes and Leica cameras. It delivers superb image quality and is easy to use.
APO-Televid spotting scopes allow 25-50x magnification range (25-50x zoom eyepiece is included). Images are rich with details and have an excellent color fidelity, light transmittance, maximum contrast and sharpness. Spotting scopes have a Schmidt Pechan (straight) or a Schmidt (angled) prism system with four Fully Multi-coated APO-chromatic lens elements. The chromatic aberration is almost impossible to find. The field of view is wide and the optical performance given by these spotting scopes is a pleasure for even the most demanding users.
The internal focusing system is dual with a split focus wheel; there is one wheel for gross focusing and another one for fine focusing. This feature enables controlling the focus of the scope with coarse or fine movements.
APO-Televids have a die-cast magnesium-alloy chassis, making them lightweight, yet durable and rigid. Armoring is made of rubber which is semi-soft, slip resistant and shock absorbent for maximum protection. The optical channel of the device is O-ring sealed and filled with nitrogen gas for water and fog resistance. It can be submerged to a depth of 5 meters. The objective lens surface is protected with AquaDura coating, which prevents dew from accumulating on the external parts of the lenses.
APO-Televid is an indispensable device for a wide range of recreational and professional activities. It is ideal for digiscoping and nature observation and comes with a sliding lens hood, a quick-change bayonet eyepiece mount and an integrated rotating tripod collar.
All APO-Televid models are made in Portugal.
This is angled model. The eyepiece is included.
The differences between the 65 mm and 82 mm models are minimal. APO-Televid 82 is slightly bigger and heavier because of the 3 dense and molecularly-heavy ED glass lens elements in the larger 82 mm objective lens. The close focusing distance is 3.8 m. This spotting scope collects an even larger amount of light than the 65 model and allows an even more detailed observation of details.
The product comes with 10 years of warranty. You can read more about the warranty policy here.
