7x50 binoculars are widely used for astronomy, especially by those who do not want to be restricted by having to use or carry about a tripod all the time and who also want to use their binoculars for other pastimes like birding or hunting. Whilst it is true that in comparison to higher powered binoculars like the 12x70 Cometron, you do sacrifice the ability to get greater detail on deep space objects, although, the advantage is that the lower magnification makes it much easier to keep the image shake free. As well as this the 50mm objectives still allow for a reasonably small and lightweight body that can be comfortably held for long periods of observation.
These 50mm objective lenses are also able to capture plenty of the available light and the very large 7.1 mm exit pupil also ensures that you are still able to observe a bright image at night.
With their wide view (119 m @ 1000 m), you can more easily scan the sky to find your desired target and then be able to observe complete clusters and constellations without the need for panning.
The 13mm of eye relief is generally sufficient, however, should you need to wear glasses, these may not make the ideal choice.
Should you need to lock them into a fixed location, like when sharing your view of the stars, it is important to point out that these are also tripod adaptable.
Cometron by Celestron manufacturer offers award winning binoculars for low-light observations by young astronomers. The 7x50 model was 2014 Space.com Editor’s Choice runner up for best small astronomy binocular. The series consists of two models that are affordable entry-level binoculars for astronomy observations. These durable and lightweight binoculars provide incredibly amazing light gathering ability and sharp focus, ideal for stargazing and observations of planets and comets. Binoculars of Cometron series are splash-proof, multi-coated and uses BK7 glass, foldable eyecups and soft central focusing mechanism.
Although Cometron binoculars have a Porro prism design, they are still incredibly lightweight, so they are perfect even for children observing the sky the whole night. Aluminum housing makes these binoculars extremely durable and able to withstand all sorts of impacts with the help of rubber armouring. They are splash-proof so the optics won’t get damaged when using them during light rainy days. The housing is grippy to provide a comfortable handling and carrying for longer periods of time. The bigger 12x70 model has a rugged rubber armouring on the sides of the housing that helps with non-slip grip. Both models are also tripod adaptable, especially convenient for bigger model with higher magnification, allowing you to get steady images without fatiguing.
Perfect binoculars for children and seniors that love stargazing at night, these affordable binoculars have a Porro prism system, that help with better light gathering ability as compared to roof prism binoculars. The lenses are also multi-coated to help not only with better light transmission but also enhanced contrast and colors. 12x70 model is especially convenient for nighttime observation, since the 70mm lens diameter offers incredibly bright images during the nighttime. Both models offer wider field of view to give a feeling of “sky-walking”. For perfect and sharp focusing, there is a central focusing knob which is very grippy and allows you to make smooth adjustments even when wearing gloves. To eliminate differences in both eyes if you have any, you can use the right-eye diopter that is set on the right eyecup.
Cometron binoculars come with an un-padded carrying case with strap and neck strap for carrying binoculars around the neck. Objective lens and eyecup lens covers are also added in the package.
