Whilst not set in stone, the majority of mid-sized roof prism binoculars have 32 mm objective lenses, so it is interesting that Kowa have decided to use very slightly larger 33 mm ones on these Genesis XD binoculars, but there are some minor benefits to this:
Just like different sized windows in a house, larger lenses on binoculars are able to capture more light and thus have the potential to produce a brighter, superior quality image. The difference here is only 1 mm, but it plays a part and in unison, with their excellent level of optical components and glass these do offer excellent views for a binocular in this size class. Further evidence of this can be seen with their slightly larger 4.1 mm exit pupil which does suggest that these will have marginally superior low light capabilities than your more traditional 8x32 mid-size binocular.
So whilst the Kowa Genesis 8x33 still will not be able to compete against a full-sized binocular, they do make a good choice for bird watchers, wildlife observers and those looking for a good general use instrument and who want the convenience of a smaller and more lightweight binocular that still offers a reasonably good low light performance.
Another excellent feature of these binoculars is the extremely wide field of view that they offer the viewer. This offer many benefits, but is especially important at close range when observing things like small, fast moving birds as it makes it much easier to locate and then follow them.
For an instrument in this size class, the 15 mm of eye relief is good, but for some eyeglass wearers, it may still not be sufficient to ensure that you can view the full image without black rings on the edges. If this is a concern, perhaps consider the 8.5x44 version that has a very impressive 18.3mm.
