The quality optical components and coatings along with their 10x30 combination on this Steiner Safari Ultrasharp model combine a very versatile binocular which can be used in a wide variety of situations but is one that really excels in open areas where you are observing wildlife, birds or other objects at fairly long distances.
It is here that the reasonably high 10x magnification gets you closer to the action, but it is not so great so as to make the image difficult to keep still in your hands or reduce the field of view by too much.
Combining the 30mm objective lenses with a 10x magnification produces a 3mm wide exit pupil. What this indicates is that these are more than fine for use during the day in medium to good light conditions. However, as night falls and the pupils in your eyes expand to a size larger than 3mm, these binoculars will not seem as bright as those that have a larger exit pupil. If this is a concern and you often go out in very poor light, perhaps consider the larger 10x42 version instead.
An important feature on these binoculars is their Sports-Auto-Focus Plus hybrid system. Here you have the best of both worlds in that at medium to long ranges, no focal adjustments are necessary which makes the instrument very easy to use and ensures you never miss out on the action whilst adjusting the focus. However, should you wish to study something like a butterfly at very close range, you can use the focus wheel which can adjust the minimum focus distance right down to only 2 meters which is excellent.
