The standout characteristic of this 8x42 Legacy binocular is the very wide field of view that you are presented with. This in combination with their ability to produce a bright image, even in low light (because of their good quality optics and a large exit-pupil) makes them the perfect choice for birders, hunters or general outdoor enthusiasts who generally operate at fairly close range and perhaps often in places like woods or forests or at times of the day when the available light is far from optimal.
Eye-relief is good which along with twist-up eyecups makes this a good choice for eyeglass wearers.
Note, these like many porro prism binoculars have a fairly long minimum close focus distance and as such would not be a good choice if your primary interest is in the detailed study of nearby butterflies or flowers for example.
The budget-friendly series of Legacy WP binoculars from Bushnell is made up of three full-sized porro prism models. Each is quite different from the other and so as a series, they cater for a wide variety of outdoor pursuits. There are two fixed magnification models, an 8x42 and a 10x50, as well as a 50mm version that has an adjustable 10-22x zoom.
The 8x42 and 10x50 models are fully sealed and thus 100% waterproof. They have also had the internal air replaced with a dry gas that puts an end to the problem of internal lens fogging. Note: the 10-22x50 version is weatherproof, meaning that it inhibits moisture and dust from entering, but is not fully waterproof or fogproof.
The fixed magnification Legacy WP binoculars feature twist-up eyecups, whilst the zoom version has fold-down eyecups and also a small lever near the right eyepiece for adjusting the magnification.
All models have a diopter adjustment ring and a large, easy to reach central focus wheel for precise focal adjustments. They are also all easily fixed to a tripod using a standard adapter. This is especially important for the zoom binocular as you can then achieve a completely shake free image even at maximum power.
These binoculars also all have a hard wearing rubber armor on the outer surface that offers protection to the optics as well as improves grip, is less reflective and is sound buffering helping you remain undetected should you need to.
These binoculars are fully multi-coated, meaning that every exterior glass surface throughout the entire optical pathway has been treated with an anti-reflection chemical, which results in an improved light transmission.
Internally they use a more traditional porro prism, which offers a high level of performance, but without the need of expensive coatings that roof prisms require. These prisms are also created from BaK-4 glass, which produces a better and brighter image than lesser quality optical glass.
The Legacy WP package includes a protective carry bag, comfortable neck strap, lens covers, rain guard for the protection of the eyepieces and a lens cleaning cloth.
Legacy WP series binoculars are backed up by Bushnell’s dependable 30-year warranty.
